HIRAETH

There is nothing more to this quiet town,

Save the abandoned streets and boarded up homes.

Dusty rooms and stained windows,

The winds crashing against the tarpaulins. I have gotten used to this silence,

These lack of human touch on things around me;

For oftentimes I do feel, life is better off without. A crisp chilly breeze envelops me in her arms,

Like an old lover I lost long long ago.

A familiarity in these gentle breaths around me,

Like her lips kissing the nape of my neck on a lazy evening. Nostalgia- a miserable friend of mine,

Visits me often in these sombre moments.

To shake me into a reality of loss and lovelorn,

To remind me of the misgivings of the past and the joys of yore. The echoes of a gurgling stream not too far away,

Like her beating heart when I laid my head upon her chest.

The harmonies of the crickets in the thicket,

Reminds me of the moans she let out one winter evening by the fire. Wherever I may wander, she follows;

For shadows seldom care for private musings.

All things said and done, life is undone without her thoughts;

In the wind, the river and the morning sun I see her still. Tomorrow death shall beseech me,

My heart shall quiet down then. My troubles in the wind.

She shall forever remain as those legends of yesteryear,

In the wind, the river and the morning sun.
