THE KINGDOMS OF YESTERDAY

The oceans crash into the shorelines,

With it the bounteous stories of yore.

The adventures of yesterday festers still,

Forsaken are the voyages of tomorrow. I walk by the coast –

Feeling the breeze of the seaside,

Crashing against my cheeks –

The memories of better days. The seashells I collect speak to me;

In obscure tongues, the reveries of yesteryear.

The histories of some wanton musing,

The journeys taken not too long ago. The shipwrecks have crippled the breeze,

Memories do not visit me anymore.

I walk along the shore,

My lips wet with mine own tears. The beaches are confounded by dreams,

Wrapped within bottles left adrift, at sea.

As my story swims away into the vast oceans –

I am beleaguered with unending pain. The mountains of memories have slowly turned to dust,

The castles made upon dreams have crumbled now.

My hands are hard from the toils of today,

Sleep beckons me now. As I make my way to my bed, left undone and cold –

Forlorn by the warmth of a lover that seldom knocks.

I slip into a solitary slumber,

Thinking of yore – these Kingdoms of Yesterday.
